The "Elsie" Books - Martha Finley

The "Elsie" books are mentioned several times in the Chalet School series, especially in the Tirol days. This lengthy series, penned by Martha Finley, was a source of inspiration for Joey Bettany. Joey was given several of the books during one of her illnesses and continued to collect them afterwards. Her first serious literary attempt was a new "Elsie" book. The "Elsie" books influenced certain irresponsible Middles in Rivals of the Chalet School and are berated by many Chaletians for being too pious.
